Now, its been quite sometime, but fail you I will never. So here I am again. This time round after massive studying, focusing and meditating, am confounded by a few topics that I pray that every Kenya, African and global citizen, basically everyone, will take time to contemplate and see how we are fairing in trying to make the globe a better place. For those who believe in the Mayan theory, well there may be no future generations to talk about as 21/12/2012 is scaringly near! Terrifying huh?
Anyway, I have been thinking for sometime about the role of religion in African setting. And the more I drive my quest into the topic, the more am convinced that this (Religion) is nothing more that some form of escapism from the harsh reality of life in this planet. It is amazing how many people who consider them selves religious, even some leaders in circle of religious matters, barely know the God they claim to worship. They have very little knowledge if any, in the word of that same God they claim to worship. People know their spouse better than they do God. People sacrifice more time and resources to their families and relatives more than they do God. So how well do they know God?
The people that do know their God shall be great and do exploits. Show me a 'christian' who is doing any thing out of the ordinary. Show me a church of Christians focusing on humanitarian issues more that finances and I will show people who know their God.
This is something that will require your input on what religion means to you. And I will tell you what it means to me. And from there, we will learn of the great mysteries that lie within us for a much more fulfilling life.

in my opinion religion is a term that describes certain practices undertaken by people in quest for attainment of godliness. Unfortunately as you have rightfully sed, the people who claim to be religious dont know the God they claim to be following, neither do they know what he requires and how he requires it.
i once had a comment from a lady, she told me am a guy who's hard to please. This was after she kept dedicating songs to me, all of which were not the of genre i fancy. so i told her you would please me if you dedicated songs that i like and i would be easy to please.
I later realized that's how we deal with our God. We seek to please with in our own ways, that which he has not required, by setting rules and boundaries and do's and dont's all of which are futile. i will back this up by quoting Romans 10, where Paul the apostal is in great anguish, concerning israel, that though the were zealous for God they did not seek God's righteousness but set to establish their own and did not submit to God's righteousness which was Christ. So by living according to how they thought God wanted and not how God wanted, they became religious much more or less like the Pharisees whom Christ condemns in the gospels. Colossians 2 Paul admonishes the church not to be religious in following certain rules that people have set for themselves and others which have and i quote Col 2:23 "Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence."NIV.
the right religion as stated by James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
and that is the hardest part; keeping oneself from being polluted by the world. Thats where you realise you need Gods grace soo badly. when people realise that they cant keep themselves from being polluted, instead of crying for mercy and grace, they run and console themselves in religion. remember what Adam and Eve did, they realised they're naked and made figs for themselves thats wat religion does to people.
The true people of God are those who know they cant meet Gods standards, they admit they cant and its only at the cross of Christ that they can lay their burdens and be at ease. And this is again by the Amazing grace of God, we dont need religion we need Gods grace, noo need to run coz you wont hide. thats why Christ sed the kingdom of God is for drunkards and prostitutes, and the subjects of the Kingdom will be thrown out. May God help us.
